DL Technology Disaster Recovery Drills: Lessons Learned

What happens when the "cloud" disappears? Most organizations treat internet connectivity like oxygen—invisible until it’s gone. To move from reactive panic to proactive resilience, our District conducted two groundbreaking cybersecurity drills: a scheduled outage and a surprise "blackout."
This presentation explores the "Why," the "How," and the "What Now" of intentional infrastructure failure. We treat these simulations with the same gravity as fire or lockdown drills, acknowledging that in an era of ransomware, extreme weather, and accidents, a total loss of digital resources is no longer a matter of if, but when.

Dexter Shorter, Ed.D., is a respected speaker, coach, and an award-winning educator who is fueled by his faith and his family. He is on a mission to impact and change lives through his motto: Transform. Grow. Achieve.
For more than 15 years, audiences have moved and motivated by his infectious energy and powerful messages that aim to challenge people to win in every aspect of life. He believes that anything is attainable and everything is achievable.
As a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and a four-time college graduate, Dexter values the power of community and education. He is focused on helping people maximize their existence through coaching and sharing wisdom. He is a proven leader who has served in full-time positions at large and small universities. His profile includes service on boards of a 501(c)(3) organization and 501(c)(6) international association.
Eric Lawson
Eric Lawson has been in education for over 25 years. He has been an elementary teacher, a technology integrator, an Admin Curriculum/Technology Integrator, and is currently the Director of Technology & Innovation for the York School Department in York, Maine. He has been published in eSchool News, Tech&Learning Magazine and ISTE’s Learning and Leading with Technology Magazine for technology integrated projects and ideas. He was named a member of the Maine Starting 6, and was inducted into the Unum Maine Teacher’s Hall of Fame in January 2012. He was the ACTEM Achieve Award winner in 2018. Eric is a certified Google Champion (Innovator, Trainer, GEG New England Leader and Product Expert).
